O.D. Scarfing Units

Overview

Addison Machine Engineering, Inc. sets the standard for tube mill products. The patented Addison Roto-Scarfer is the highest quality unit available today, providing an ultra-smooth finish and long running cut. The extended wear, regrindable carbide cutting tool requires a change after six to eight hours, instead of every twenty minutes.

Because the roto-scarf cutting insert is usable across the entire cutting surface, it is equivalent to numerous stationary inserts that have only one usable section of cutting surface. Oscillation of the cutting insert across the weld seam works to further reduce the effects of heat erosion and deterioration of the cutting surface. As the insert moves across the weld seam, only a small section of the total cutting surface is engaged and cutting at any given time. Any particular area of the insert passes over the weld and cuts for only seconds before passing off of the weld, then being allowed to cool before it comes in contact with the weld again. This constant exchange of the working surface extends the life of the insert and insures a very high quality surface finish.

Addison Tandem Scarfing Units are designed for manual (or optional air) operation of the tool engagement and disengagement. The tool holders are adjustable simultaneously and individually. Lateral slides and tool holder slides are both on a dovetail design, which limits the chances of tool harmonics and allows for periodic adjustments due to normal slide wear. Each tool holder is equipped a positive locator lip to lock the cutting tool in position.

• Manual cutting tool engagement and disengagement
• Optional air-actuated tool engagement and disengagement tied to mill run relay
• Scarfing is performed by disposable indexable carbide cutting inserts supported on removable tool holders

   

Addison single and tandem bead winders and indexing bead winders come standard with automatic push-off features that eliminate handling of coiled scarf for increased operator safety.
